My dream of hooping with a community has finally come true. After filling orders for 52 hoops, I now have friends who hoop.
I realize most people can’t imagine hula hooping for hours at a time, but picture this:
beautiful park, cool, pleasant breeze, silence except for good music and laughter, kids running in and out of the hoop circle, snacking, chasing butterflies, climbing trees, hooping, and dancing off into the day together. Keep picturing moms on blankets, sharing stories, encouraging each other to try again, resting in the shade enjoying the company of friends and acquaintances. Those who are timid, rise up. Those who haven’t hooped since they were small children, are up laughing and learning. Those of us who are fanatics, sharing what we know.
One friend texted me later that it was one of the best afternoons in a long while- almost like therapy.
I would have to agree.
Who knew a year ago and a half ago, when I got my first hoop in the mail and tried for hours to learn to keep the circle on my hips, I would be dancing in the sunshine, in the public, barefoot and with a full heart.
I feel so blessed to have days off. Days to squander, when the house is untidy and peanut butter and jellies are all we can scrounge up at 6pm. Chores are left undone, school work postponed for a rainy day, errands put on hold- so we can play in a park with big circles and lots of love.
Happy Hoop Love.
