FAMILY | Turners

This darling family was so special. The way they love and enjoy one another was inspiring. We spent an hour in a nearby park talking and laughing and getting to know each other a bit and by sunset I felt like I had new friends.

This guy is obviously adored.  I love this image- it shows the genuine friendship and pleasure.

Thank you, Turner Family.   I’ll be thinking of Blake and wishing him traveling mercies while away.  I know he will be missed every single day.

RECIPES | Spiced Peach Preserves

Our local Orchard has gorgeous peaches.  A bushel sounds gigantic, but it doesn’t last long in the Teague house.  We eat as many as we can before they are too ripe, and then quickly chop and freeze and can Spiced Peach Preserves.   I feel very Little-House-on-the-Prairie when I put away food for the winter.

This recipe marks the first time I ever met my dear friend, Jan.  She’s like a momma, mentor, best friend, auntie, therapist all in one.  The day I walked into her kitchen to learn preserve making was one of the best gifts of my life.

Go ahead and let your mouth water….

HOMESCHOOL | chronological order

The history of the world is the record of a man in quest of his daily bread and butter. ~Hendrik Wilhelm van Loon, The Story of Mankind

History ranks right up there with poetry, nature, and art study. I find so much pleasure in planning our reading each year- biographies, wars, romances, inventions. Understanding history gives perspective and wisdom. I’m encouraged to make mistakes, to not give up, to live with compassion and discernment.
My history timeline never really fell into place until I started homeschooling. I loved putting the puzzle pieces together, who was a contemporary of whom and what was being built during which war.
A few years ago I was visiting a homeschool veteran and I noticed her bookshelf was organized chronologically. GENIUS. I ran home, pulled every book off the shelf, grabbed some labels and my laptop and got started. Surprisingly, it only took a few hours.
Now I can send the kids to the shelf and ask them to choose their next read from the 1940’s or the 1820’s. It’s incredibly rewarding when I see the lightbulbs going off in my children’s heads as they piece our world together.

FILM | Color

Just a little something happy for this crazy Tuesday.

BABY | Tallulah

Oh this darling face, so beautiful. Surreal and amazing seeing this friend and her daughter. I kept wishing for time to slow down, for bedtime not come so quickly, for just a few more minutes to catch up on 18 years. I love hearing people’s stories and this one, well, I know it’s a good one.
Honored to make Tallulah’s first birthday portraits. She’s a keeper and gorgeous like her mama.  And a very happy birthday to Grandma too.
