FAMILY | Barteaux’s in Red Bud Valley

The last few weeks have been busy. I’ve been digging in to some final edits for a huge project, working alone. So when the weekend rolled around and a few family shoots were on the books, I was excited to be out playing with the Barteaux Family in the beautiful woods of Red Bud Valley.

We were lucky because the weather cooperated even though the forecast looked dreary. Peeks of sun at the very end were a little gift.

And the best part was that Sarah is the older sister of one of my favorite Senior clients of all time. I fell in love with Natalie and her mom, Olivia, last year. Meeting Sarah was definitely the highlight of my week!

PERSONAL | Mermaid Blue Maggie

This gal, Maggie, is twelve. She’s MY 12 year old and I can hardly believe how beautiful she is. She’s not just beautiful, but smart, respectful, responsible, compassionate, and creative.

She’s decided she wants to be a tattoo artist when she grows up. She spends her free time drawing and reading Tolkien and Twain and making caramels.

I love this one. I love her bravery and self esteem. Beauty is as beauty does, and let me tell you, she’s beautiful.

Travel | Nicaragua- the children

As many of you know, I’ve been partnering with Project Hope Worldwide over the past six months, traveling and documenting their amazing work being done all over the planet. Last week we traveled to Leon, Nicaragua and wow. I fell in love with the country and the people, especially the beautiful children.

We spent three days visiting children currently sponsored through PHWW and profiling the kids who are still waiting for sponsorship. This trip was unique because we also had an RN who cleaned and cared for several of the kids needing medical attention. Watching her work with gentle compassion was humbling. I was reminded of Jesus, his love for the poor and the outcasts, his healing touch, his teachings of being his hands and feet here on earth.

Leaving my nest for lands unknown never gets old. Seeing these kids, their homes, their families, their poverty is gut wrenching. My awareness for the plight of the fatherless has never been more acute. I’m thankful the Lord has given me new eyes for His people.

BIRTH | Emma Mae Bennett is here!

My darling friend, Ann, invited me to document her birth days after finding out she was pregnant with her second baby. I’ve been counting down the months, weeks, days ever since. Births are right up there in my book. It’s a glimpse of heaven on earth, a miracle we are allowed to witness. People ask me if it’s gross. I’m always taken aback, because it’s anything but gross- it’s beautiful. Time stands still in those moments. Watching a woman work through labor, the intensity and focus, determination and courage, leaves me breathless and inspired. Ann was incredible. Her strength, mental and physical, is crazy awesome.

A million thank you’s, Ann and JP. I feel so honored to have been there through the whole night. Emma is blessed to have you as parents.
