FAMILY | The Arterberry Clan

Spending a morning with one of my best friends on the planet, of all time, was definitely a highlight of my busy Fall.

It’s a bummer we had to make a session appointment to get to spend time together, but this is life at the moment.  At least they are in Tulsa and not on the other side of the globe.

Mandy and Aaron, you are so precious to me.  Thank you for all the years of faithful friendship, of seeing me at my best and worst, and sticking with me.  I love you both and your babies so much.  Can’t ever tell you enough.

FAMILY | Sisters and Sunlight

Schedule and reschedule, schedule and reschedule.  And then the perfect evening rolled around and I’m so glad we had waited.   Of course, I’m always surprised at how kiddos change from year to year- and this shoot was no exception.

I hope these images are printed, enjoyed, and saved, and when they are all grown up, they can pull them out and giggle together at lucky they are to grow up with a sister and best friend.

FAMILY | The Ferlands

So thankful for this family.  Through years of working together, we’ve become friends- dear friends.   Watching the girls grow up into lovely young women, catching glimmers of what they will look like when they are Seniors and graduating, meeting sisters and mothers and in-laws…  it’s an honor and privilege to be intimately involved in each other’s lives.

Mindee, your life is beautiful.  You are beautiful.  Your family is beautiful.

I love you so much.

FAIRY TALE | Little Red Riding Hood

When I was a child visiting my grandparents, tucked in under layers of quilts and the old-fashioned lamp burning a dim tungsten, I would pull out the Brothers Grimm. Nestling in, the book, thick and heavy in my little hands. I would read until I was frightened, startling at the tiniest noise, the clocks ticking loudly.  Wolves and goblins and elves, mischievous and devious, preying on little children.

I was hooked.

Once upon a time there was a little girl whose mother loved her very much. So much, she gave the beloved daughter a cloak made of deep red velvet. She was known by all as Little Red Riding Hood. One day the mother called to Riding Hood and asked her to visit the grandmother who lived deep inside the forest.  She was to take a bottle of cider, bread and fruit to nourish the sick, elderly woman.   Riding Hood’s mother forbid her from wandering, but to stay on the path and not speak to strangers.
But the little girl was full of fancy.  She knew her grandmother would feel so much better if only she had some fresh flowers as well as the food.  Straying from the path for only a few moments, she was sure she’d find a patch of lovelies. She carefully gathered bits of nature in the quiet forest. But lurking in the woods was the evil wolf whose stomach was empty.  Little Red Riding Hood would be just the thing to still the grumbles of his belly.

Was that a noise?
Remembering her mother’s admonishment, Riding Hood began to hurry.
Growing frightened, the little one stopped to look.  The forest was still, but unhappily the girl could feel she was not alone.Spying the wolf, her distress and fear grew. No grandmothers being gobbled, no “my what big teeth you have grandmother”.  Little Riding Hood learned her lesson of wandering through the lonely woods this time.

A huge thanks to my darling models, who also happen to be my kids.  They are always so good to play with me.

WEDDING | Peter + Libby

Meeting Libby and hearing the story of Peter, dating, surprise engagement, and wedding day plans, I was so excited. I felt an instant connection with Libby- and I think that’s the remarkable thing about her. I’m supposing everyone she meets feels the same.

Peter and Libby were married on a beautiful day in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by friends and family. Their reception was so large tables spilled out of the great room. Obviously these two are deeply loved and it’s easy to see why.

I pray God blesses your marriage and your lives together. Thank you for sharing your story with me- it was an honor to spend the day with you both.

FAMILY | The Bristols

Meet the Bristols. One mama living with four males. As a mother of ONE son, I am barely scratching the surface of the chaos she lives- THREE sons…. I have no idea how she so gracefully does what she does. Kristen is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever known. Her light shines from the inside out. Her strength and courage inspire me. She’s kind and thoughtful and generous and hospitable, hilarious, authentic, and an amazing cook.

We spent an evening in the sunshine, geared up for Lacrosse with lots of testosterone. Balls buzzed by me now and then, near misses. This family plays hard and strong.

Kristen, my darling friend, I love you so much. So thankful we’ve walked life together for 12 years even though most of it’s been long-distance. You’re a treasure.

COMMERCIAL | JOY PROUTY

I’ve been given so many gifts. I look back over the past few years of starting my photography business, and I can count one after another. My clients, my friendships and partnerships with artists who inspire and encourage me.

One of the landmark weeks of my year was working beside Joy Prouty of Wildflowers Photography. I have been her biggest fan for years, creeping on her Instagram and blog, wishing our paths would cross and certain we would be besties.

And then she came to Texas. Just a skip away from Oklahoma and I knew it was meant to be. And what’s even more incredible, I was her videographer for the workshop. The screams that came out of this house could be heard up and down the street. My kids thought I was acting so “unprofessional” but I threw care to the wind and just reveled in the thought of witnessing an artist I admire so much do her thing.

And the goodness I learned. Those two days were a gift beyond words, a time of reflection and friendship and magic. God knew what my heart needed and He delivered something more than I could have asked for or imagined. I’m so thankful.

Joy has a love for women artists which runs deep and she speaks truth even when it kinda hurts. I wish I could have taken more notes, but sitting at her feet (literally) with my camera in hand, I just soaked it in. Work has never been so satisfying or so lovely.

I’m honored to have been given the opportunity to sit beside Ms. Joy in an intimate way. She brings sunshine and laughter and authenticity to this world. She works hard, she loves well, she creates incredible beauty.
You are a gift, my friend. And I feel so lucky to walk along our lifes’ journeys together.
